Monday mayhem

Filed under: personal — Tags: — moiraeknittoo @ 5:23 PM

Alas, not Mayhem of Chaos and Mayhem fame. I don’t have mews that adorable, though Troublecat looks like he could be their cousin. Trouble is my sister’s cat, and I think he should be a part of the “Aptly Named Mew” club.

No, Monday Mayhem is the title because last week, CompanyX laid off half the FTEs in my group, and now we’re struggling to shift workloads with the three active folks left. Two, really, for the next two months as one is on parental leave. Good times! I will be picking up a LOT more work, and trying to brief the boss I have left (they let the other one go WAH!) is a struggle, as he’s being inundated with questions, emails and his head is spinning.

I’m pooped. Thus the no posting last week. Nor today, really, but I wanted to get something up.

I’m gonna go be all zen or something, and watch the suddenly very strong wind blow the dandelion fluff around.

Blessed Beltane!

Filed under: knitting — moiraeknittoo @ 9:57 AM

It’s going to be a gorgeous day out there. Beltane is usually observed on May 1st, though technically it’s at 15 degrees of Taurus, which should happen in a few days. I didn’t get up early enough to wash my face with dew, but did add an extra glorp of half and half to my coffee with sincere thanks for the day.

I’m also working from home today, because frankly, my feminine energies don’t feel like getting out of my jammies today.

I’ve been pretty down - my brother got on another one of his “you need counseling because of your stash” things, as well as “you’re too fat and you embarrass us when we’re seen with you” conversational tangents, which of course all translates to “we’d love you more if you were what we feel you should be, rather than what you are” moments in my life. An endless stream of these things goes back probably to before my birth, but it doesn’t make it any less sucky in the here and now.

Thus no WIP Wednesday this week, as I’ve been too sad to knit and have been binging visually on Star Trek: Voyager episodes instead. Lalalala I can’t hear you - Seven’s Borg implants and the natural topigraphical fluctionations to her anatomy is causing a spacial disruption in auditory frequencies normally associated with asshattery and “it’s for your own good”edness. Or something. There are many, many days when I wish I could get lost in the DQ, away from my damn family in the Alpha Quadrant.

Anyway, along these lines I came across a fully awesome website today that had somehow escaped my notice before. kateharding.net is sincerely full of fucking awesome, and is definitely going into my bloglines. I am having issues texturally rendering just how fabulous I find this site this morning, so just go and take a look.

But I can definitely tell you I feel better about just being me this morning. Perhaps enough to continue to knit…I started something last night in the Viridescent Aran Silky Merino from Sundara, just to feel something good and growing in glorious green (yay alliteration) in my hands.

So perhaps I should change the title to “Fuck Yeah I’m Fat!” Friday and just on with gettin’ on. Or perhaps I’ll go have a s’more for breakfast in celebration of one of my holidays and the lush, beautiful, amazingness that is the first day of summer to me.

Monday musings

Filed under: baseball, brain_dump, personal — moiraeknittoo @ 4:15 PM

Does the potential for multiple orgasms really outweigh this awful disgusting feeling of my cycle every month (not to mention the corresponding wear and tear on the body) for what appears to be years and years and years?

Discuss.

Secondly, can all this tree sexxin’ (my car was absolutely *coated* in pollen this morning) affect human reproductive cycles? Because I swear mine is like four days early.

Fuckin’ Mondays. The only good thing was the SWEEEEEEEP! of the Skankees by the Boston Red Sox AND my boy Jacoby stole home and it was awesome. I’m also lookin’ at you, Mike Lowell and Jason Bay and Youk for that home stand. *nods sagely* You da MEN!

Friday happiness!

Filed under: knitting — moiraeknittoo @ 12:38 PM

I’m just freakin’ glad it’s Friday. Totally exhausted, and more than ready to head home for some time on the sock and an early bedtime tonight.

My life, it is so exciting.

However, this is making me giggle today. Head on over to My First Dictionary for a bit of eyebrow raising learnin’. Heh.

WTF Wednesday

I’d do WIP Wednesday, but even though I’m on the second of the two socks, there’s not much beyond the cuff and, well, I’m too damn lazy to pull out either my phone or the camera.

And.

Seriously US Supreme Court?! It’s totally OK to strip search a 13 year old girl? Without first calling her parents to inform them of the situation? And on the word of another student who has gotten caught with drugs before?

The thought of these…people…being in charge of our highest court makes my stomach turn. The fact that they found something to laugh about in any part of the situation makes my blood pressure rise to dangerous levels.

FAIL. Complete and utter fucking fail.

Monday meh.

Monday has never, and probably will never be my favorite day of the week. I have been fighting a cold for like, oh, two weeks and am just so tired and achy today. Everyone at work keeps passing this plague back and forth to each other, and today’s casuality is the Director of the group. Meh.

My annoying officemate (from here on out referred to as VBI, for she is Very Busy and Important) talked for two damn hours straight about her adventures in house buying this weekend. I so totally don’t care. Meh.

VBI also wants to hook me up with someone who is a) looking for a wife, b) the mother of his future children and c) a great cook and d) a nice girl. I’m …pretty much 0/4 there with his qualifications, and my comments about womb renting and the Zero Population Growth Movement hopefully put paid to any matchmaking plans. I’m not and hopefully will not actually spawn my own children, and am perfectly content to dote on nieces and nephews. “Oh, but when you meet the right man, you’ll totally feel differently!” Bitch, please. *snorts* VBI annoys me. Meh.

Yesterday or today is Brother-Out-Law’s birthday, so we’re doing pulled pork BBQ somewhere in greater Seattle for dinner. My sister is vegan, and the only meat allowed in the house is the occasional special event piece of salmon. This should be interesting, but really, I just want to go home, curl up and go to bed. Clutching a skein of my new Sundara Silky Merino, naturally.

So you can see why today is very much a Monday Meh sort of day.

Hrmph.

Friday happiness - spoilers for Sundara Seasons!

Filed under: knitting, spinning, stash, yarns — moiraeknittoo @ 12:57 PM

I’ve belonged to Sundara’s Seasons yarn club for a while, and today I got the final shipment for this incarnation. She’s made changes to the structure in an effort to allow her more creativity when it comes to dyeing, so while many folks are mourning the loss, I feel very lucky to have been able to participate for as long as I did. She has some amazing product, and this shipment was no exception.

These are in her Aran Silky Merino yarn base, and I will probably happily spend some time puttering around figuring out what to make with these. Something special, certainly, but simple. Hat and cowl sets seem perhaps like a bit of a waste, but the yarn is so gorgeous it should be something that people would wear often. Suggestions would be most appreciated, though ones that consist of “send it to me!” will result in much giggling and “AHAHAAHA, no.” Clicky to embiggen below.

Oo la la! And happy Friday!
