Oh, and a question

Damn insomnia. I’m so tired, and yet, when I curl up to sleepy? It doesn’t come. Foo.

Question for all you yarn addicts. Is there a sport weight (though I’ll take fingering weight) yarn that’s at least 50/50 wool/silk? I’d settle for dyeing my own colors, but I would like at least that ratio of fibers. I’d settle for wool/tencel, or a greater percentage of the silky stuff in the blend. My google-fu is offline, apparently, after five consecutive days of less than four hours of sleep.

I hate that. I need MacGyver to come work some mojo on me. Interpretation of how he manages that is up to you, dear reader. ;D

Alternatively, can I just say RDA is absolutely adorkable as Nicodemus Pratt in that very short lived series Legend? I ::heart:: him so!!!

Groovy.

Filed under: spinning, wheels — moiraeknits @ 12:24 PM

I’ve gotten most of my spinning wheels off of craigslist. And they’ve all worked wonderfully, and I’ve resold most of them. “Try before you buy”? What’s that?

Anyway, in the Seattle listings, there are a few that could probably use some TLC, and would need extra bobbins crafted if you want more than one, but if I wasn’t unemployed, I might pounce on a couple of these.

Nice handcrafted with distaff, for example. Or a whole set of wheels. I would love to have a Canadian one. *sigh* Someday. Like this one, which I want to pack up to send to Dave at the Merlin Tree for some TLC STAT.

Craigslist is teh bomb.

Thanks to the combined efforts of myself and my friend Ariana, I can see most of the floor in my living room again. It’s no longer overrun with fiber, which is awesome. Someday I’ll take a picture of it and share it here, but that’s after I get a dustbuster or a vacuum. And a new coffee table, and the entertainment center and sets of shelves I really really want (pre-coffee I’m Scary Spice).

I continue plugging away doggedly at a couple of different knitting projects, but have also gotten distracted into doing a little something of my own. I’ll share once I stop swearing at graph paper.

Hope anyone who still reads this is doing fabulously as August winds down! :D

AHHAHAHAHA!

Sometimes, I love The Stranger. Found on one of my LJ friends lists entries, a guide to going shopping on the Focus on the Family tab. They’re kind of a fundie Christian org who has a HUGE section about crap like “how to prevent homosexuality” on their website.

The gist of the article is that the more free crap they have to send out to people who don’t donate a dime (and, in fact, snigger loudly at the “suggested donation” parts), the less money they have to spread their hateful agenda. I like this idea.

Go forth and shop w/out spending a dime!

Greetings, Earthlings.

OK, so I’d like to look for the pod. Podcasts, at least. While I don’t have an iPod or other .mp3 player, I can and would be happy to burn them from iTunes to disc to listen to in my slightly less than hip music device.

So, what are your favs? I’m poking around a bit on iTunes, but I’d love to hear your recommendations. :)

RIP Hobbes, 2005-2006

Filed under: personal — moiraeknits @ 6:32 PM

Goodbye Mr. Orange Cat. I will miss you. Seen here with his little sister Tinkerbell.

He went very quickly and peacefully. I hope he’s with Bast right now, or at the very least enjoying what my sister wanted for him:

So my little kitty will join the great Land of the Perpetual Warm Spots to Lie, where roast chickens grow on shrubs of catnip, there are endless bubbling water fountains to dip paws in, and string appears out of nowhere to tickle whiskers and drive kitties crazy.

Feline days

Filed under: knitting, personal — moiraeknits @ 4:49 PM

It always amuses me that the “dog days of summer” fall in Leo.

Speaking of felines, Hobbes is doing a little bit better. In order to get something in his little stomach, my sister’s vet recommended she try “kitty junk food”, aka Fancy Feast. She’s having to feed him off her fingers, as he’s been too weak and too disinterested in food to make an effort to eat out of his bowl, but he’s had a few mini-meals, and while still weak, is at least holding his own. He’s also been drinking a bit, as long as the water is running from the tap, and is calm and as comfortable as he can be right now.

Tinkers is jealous of all the attention he’s getting, and she won’t eat unless she gets hand fed too. Heh. She’s very worried about her brother, but seems to understand and just curls close to keep him company.

After helping give Hobbes his first dose of medication, I can now understand Laurie’s exasperation. And good gods that woman deserves a medal or something, what with having to pill FOUR cats at the same time. She’s a superhero in my book, one who waves her magic knitting needle and a table with yarn, fried chicken & okra and super awesome cake appears. It’s the best kind of superpower to have. Along with pilling cats.

On the knitting front? Well, I wound a couple of skeins of sock yarn yesterday before astrology class in an effort to get myself interested in it again. And I took Norma’s advice, and started something new for me. A vest from one of the links on the Dulaan site. I’m working on it during episodes of MacGyver, which is proving to be the funniest damn show I think I’ve ever seen.

During this I’ve come to an important conclusion, and one that might prove to be unpopular:

I don’t like doing charity knitting.

I am a pretty slow knitter, and I’ve discovered that I end up resenting the time it takes to knit something for someone not in my immediate circle. It’s not to say that I won’t do it, because I do feel that it’s important. And I like being able to help.

But I think, after my stash of “charity” yarn is used up, that I may stick with monetary donations from now on. My knitting time, when the mojo is there, is fairly precious to me, and I want to spend it on projects that make me feel good, and generate love within me. Some people are able to do this for the greater world. I’ve discovered that I am not one of them.

Selfish? Sure. But I give enough of myself and my time to other things already. I’m drawing the line at my knitting, dammit.
