I'm sorry for the extra "lint" clogging your life.

As for your gift ideas, they sound great. A knitted baby blanket, ideally on the bias so it's extra-good for swaddling, is always wonderful! (Gargantuan mitered square?) Washable is a must for baby knitting (Dale Baby Ull is one option), polyester a must-not, and it should have a relatively stable stitch pattern with small-ish holes (if any) so babies don't stick their fingers in and yank a strand all out of kilter. And although baby clothes get grown out of so quickly, Emma has a nice layette on MagKnits.
