So fabulous!

I can’t believe how long it took for my first scoured skein to dry. Days and days! I should get a skein blocker to help that along next time, I think. Regardless, it IS finally dry and I wound up a smidge last night and set to work swatching.

Man this yarn is fabulous. Soft, flowing…a total pleasure to work with. I haven’t really worked with silk all that much, but I love it so far! I did two small swatches last night while watching MacGyver (so much love for The Adorkable One). The one on US 3s felt a bit dense, so I went up a needle size. The US 4s swatch is much more drapey, but still fairly cohesive. That may be the winner. I might do one on 5s, just to see how it looks, but I’m pretty happy with the swatch on 4s.

I was so tired last night that I didn’t measure the sts/in and the row gauge, but I’ll do that today. I’m also trying to figure out how big I want the final object to be. The bigger it is, the more room I have to work with the design elements. Decisions, decisions.

Oh! I also figured out last night how I may end up dyeing the thing to get the effect I’m looking for. It’ll involve a fairly MacGyvered setup, now that I think about it, so who says you can’t learn anything from television? I’m a bit nervous though, because if I do it the way I imagined, there’s like zero room for f-ing it up. I see a lot of test dyeing in my future, which means I finally found a perfect justification for having bought all that KnitPicks Bare yarn. Huzzah!

I really have no idea what I’m doing here. I’m just making it up as I go along. :D

In other news, Nadine has finished her bath. I need to remember to pick up a few more pillowcases from the thrift store, or some other container-like thing for storage. If I had the money, I’d buy these zippered 100% cotton cases I found online somewhere once, but IIRC, their ordering process was non-secured and faintly suspicious.

I’m rambling. Didn’t really get any good sleep last night, and should now head out to run errands and other fun things. Hope y’all are enjoying the day!

GRRRRRR.

Pre-pregnant? How about I cut off your f-ing Viagra access you bastards?

Filled with so much rage. I can’t even articulate how angry I am. The words “pre-pregnant” make my vision fill with red and it’s a wonder my head hasn’t exploded yet. But would it matter, so long as my womb was intact, regardless of whether I’m planning on reproducing anything with it?

Fucking bastards. Grrrrrr!

[this post brought to you by not enough coffee, ardent pro-choice sentiments and a sincere desire to castrate whoever came up with that phrase]

In knitting news, I’m still working on socks. And may work on a design for a male chastity device because the poor dears can’t be bothered to keep it zipped, and of course it’s the fault of all the baby incubators everywhere, so long as they’re of an age to menstruate.

But first, I’m gonna run out for a double shot of scotch and possibly chain smoke my way through half a pack while eating a cheese steak sandwich with a side of fries smothered in cheese and gravy or something.

AWOL

Sorry y’all. I’ve been AWOL since finishing the first skeins. Family stuff sort of took over my life - my sister moved here from WI and we were getting here settled, and my oldest brother was in a serious car accident yesterday back in CO. He’s OK, though they had to cut him out of the car and there was airlifting and scalp staples and other things that make me go EEK! and EWW! simultaneously.

I haven’t really had much time to myself since last Saturday, though I’ve continued to work on socks, and my take-along modified feather & fan scarf in Colinette mohair when I’m on the go because it’s what happens to be in my bag at this point in time. I haven’t had much spinning time, though I did pay for the Petite Strauch carder and it’ll be here next week sometime. I need to get back on the fleece washing wagon, and hit the local essential oil supply store for a ginormous bottle of lavender EO and a spritz bottle for Ye Olde Fleece Stash. I think I need to get a big ass bottle of a lavender wool wash as well, and maybe take the yarn stash that was in the old apartment out for a good washing as well. It’ll give me incentive to re-discover and possibly document the stash at the same time, and also help moth-deter for another year or so.

Anyway. Life is crazy at the moment. Fiber goodness is helping me stay balanced, and after last night’s astrology class? Knowing that my south node in Taurus in the fifth house helps explain a few things. :)
